29.08.09 - Isham do 'Double' over Earls Barton

Both 1st & 2nd XI's produced wins over Earls Barton in the double header weekend.

The 1st XI were playing their final home game of the season and signed off with victory. Isham lost the toss and were put in to bat. The innings began badly with opener Reid falling for just 6. Zia and Harrison made slow but sure progress on a pitch that was dusting up with variable bounce once the new ball had been seen off. Harrison fell for 24 and was soon followed by Zia for 37. Long in his new no.4 berth played positive shots but was undone with one drive too many for 16. Somerfield joined skipper Court and slowly they began to build an innings together. The partnership had reached 62 when Court was dismissed by opener Yaqub with a 'nip backer' for 44. Somerfield fell soon after for yet another dubious LBW for 30. The tail failed to wag as Smith was left unbeaten on 10 as he ran out of partners. Isham 188 all out on the last ball.

Earls Bartons reply began slowly but surely and they had reached 36 before opener Yaqub was out LBW to Law, the first of his 5 wickets. Overseas Suleman joined Rees and both batted well taking the total to 66 before Law bowled a beauty that moved away off the seam uprooting the South African's off stump. Hussain had replaced Somerfield and immediatley had new batsman Smart caught at slip by Reid. At the other end Law was into his stride and blew away the top and middle order with Hussain also taking another. Somerfield was reintroduced to mop up the tail. No 8 batsman Trotter was putting up a solid resistance to the Isham attack and with one wicket needed his innings was ended in the most unfortunate of manners. An attempted yorker from Somerfield

came out a full toss which Trotter managed to chip up into his chin. The resulting injury was a huge split which needed stitches. Trotter forced to retire on 29 off 58 balls. An Isham win in disapointing circumstances.

The 2nd XI were also facing Earls Barton in an away fixture. Winning they toss they inserted the home side with opener Shaun Wills striking early on to remover skipper Howe for 0. Soon Brooks was caught behind off White and Wills has his second bowling Agostini for 1 leaving the home side on 17 -3. Opener Bond and new bat Patching regrouped taking the score past 50 before Hobbs was introduced and removed Bond with a catch off his own bowling. Regular wickets followed with only no.8 Desborough making any impact with 35. Earls Barton eventually all out for 139. Wills and Hobbs both finishing with 3 wickets each.

Chasing a low score with 53 overs to chase it down created an ideal situation for veterans Hardy and Norton to go out and set their stall. Both made slow but steady runs until Hardy was caught and bowled by Yaqub. Perkins came and went for 0. Mistry made 17 and White 4. Norton eventually fell 3 short of his 50. Shaun Wills and Luck got the score within 1 run before Wills was bowled. Isham finally got over the line with overs and wickets to spare finishing on 140-6.

The win see's them advance above Earls Barton into 7th place and 45 points clear of the relegation battle.

10.08.09 - Leaders undone by 'Long Arm of the Law!'

The 1st XI produced a great performance on Saturday to beat top of the table Geddington. The start of the day was Andy ‘Whammo’ Law who took 4 wickets in 4 balls to obliterate the Geddington middle order.

Isham won the toss and gave Geddington first knock on a pitch that was always going to be a bit soft after the torrential rain throughout the week. Star man Steele opened up and was not doubt looking at a big score after dispatching the Isham bowlers to all parts on his way to 156 against them earlier in the season. His stay this time was a short lived one as he only lasted 4 balls. Aussie quick bowler Somerfield cleaned him up with a delivery sort of a length that kept low and beat the unlucky Steele all ends up.

Opener Tertius Raubenheimer was joined at the crease by older brother Tian. Both set about the bowling playing positive shots and at times chancing their arm. Geddington found themselves on 40-1 and bowling changes were on the cards until Law’s magic spell reduced Geddington to 40-5. First victim was Raubenheimer Jnr who top edged a short delivery and was caught sharply by Reid at 1st slip. Pearson lasted one ball, LBW straight in front. Ludlam made his way in for the hat-trick ball, still dressing himself after the tumble of wickets. The fielders surrounded the bat like a pack of wolves. A good length ball from Law nipped away, found the edge and was taken superbly, low down by keeper Harrison. The players surrounded Law to celebrate his first County League hat-trick. This bought the end of the over. A maiden was played out and Law once again found himself bowling at a new man – Sutherland. Again Law strode in and struck him on the back pad right in front of middle, 4 in 4 balls!!

At 40-5 Geddington needed to regroup. Raubenheimer now had to change his game to a more weary one and with Murdoch the score progressed slowly past 100 before Murdoch was caught by Reynolds off Court for a grafted 18 off 57 balls. Skipper Toseland joined Raubenheimer and at 6-105 caution was the order of the day. 10 tight overs followed as Toseland dug in to play the support role. He was eventually cleaned up by the Somerfield who was back in the attack for 0 off 26 balls. The only other contribution was from Judd who ended up 14 not out as Somerfield and Long cleaned up the tail. Geddington all out for 154 in 45.4 overs. Law and Somerfield finishing with 4 wickets each.

Isham's reply started badly as Zia was given out LBW batting 2 yards out of his crease after getting a big stride in. Reid was joined by Harrison. Both knew their job was to see of the new ball which they did. After scratching around to begin with Harrison began to play with fluency and some exquisite shots followed. Harrison reached his 50 and Isham took the score past 90 before Harrison was run out stupidly backing up too far. Reynolds came and went without progressing the score and Reid followed soon after. Skipper Court lasted 3 balls and Robinson joined him in the pavilion after Raubenheimer's Googly did him all ends up! Isham had gone from 90-1 to 108-6 and Geddington sensed victory.

Smith and Somerfield calmed things down playing out some overs. Somerfield attacked the bad ball playing positively while Smith played well in the support role. Smith eventually fell LBW with the score on 127 to a short pitched shooter. Long joined Somerfield and again showed the strength of the Isham batting line up. Never looking in trouble they put on 30 with Long finishing the game with a 6 overs mid wicket.

A well deserved victory to an in-form Isham team who as usual tried to keep the crowd and the opposistion interested right until the end!!

29.07.09 - Isham beat Prem side to make Finals Day

Isham defeated Premier League side Stony Stratford in the quarter finals of the NCL Twenty20 Plate at Orlingbury road. Isham lost the toss and Stony decided to bat first. Tight bowling from Court and Henson meant Stony got of to a slow but steady start after loosing opener Avery in the third over. Ex test player Dion Ebrahim and Tate were the backbone of the Stony innings scoring 45 and 42 respectivley before both being caught out on the boundary by Court off the bowling of Reynolds. A couple of good run outs by Somerfield helped the cause. Stony eventually setting 146-6 off their 20 overs.

The Isham innings got off to a flyer with Aussie Somerfied playing some big shots helping to take 22 off the first over. At the other end Lodder played an uncharacteristic shot and was bowled for 1 by Jethre. Will Chudley came in at 3 and some quick running and the odd boundary meant that Isham were always up with the run rate. Somerfield fell for 21 which bought usual opener Reid to the Crease. Reid and Chudley continued the scoring with some well played shots and well taken singles. Will was eventually caught on 22 and was replaced by his brother who was out LBW first ball. Stony sensed they were now on top as wickets were falling. Skipper Court joined Reid who both consolodated for a couple of overs to stem the flow of wickets. A tired Reid was eventually out for a well played 46. Reynolds joined Court and as the last recognised batsman they both played steady shots taking runs off singles and dispatching the odd bad ball. The run rate was up to 7 an over but both batsmen were playing well and managed to see Isham home with 4 balls to spare. A good victory that sees Isham into the Finals day.

18.07.09 - Weekley Hold out for Draw against 1st XI

The 1st XI were held to a winning draw away at Weekley & Warkton on Saturday. After loosing the toss and being put into bat the Isham innings began badly, loosing Ben Reid for 0. Zia and Somerfield then settled things down and took the score to 85 before the Australian was dismissed for a well worked 56. Zia was Joined by Vice captain George Chudley before loosing his wicket 2 runs short of his half century. George Chudley went on to make 39 and was joined by skipper Court. Younger Chudley Will made 9 and Court was joined by Tim Robinson. Court and Robinson began steadily and then took the Weekley bowlers apart in the final overs scoring nearly 50 runs off the final 4 overs!! Robison ended unbeaten on 43 and Court unbeaten on 63. Isham finished 290 for 5.

The Weekley innings began with Palmer and Rorke. Palmer looked comfortable, Rorke however looked nervous againt flatmate Somerfield - who eventually cleaned him up for 10. Burgess came in at 3 and from ball 1 took it to the Isham bowlers. Edges and near misses frustrated the bowlers to beging with but he then settled down and began to hit the ball cleanly. Palmer, batting well, left a straight one from Law leaving Weekley 28-2. Ferguson, only playing his second game of the season, joined Burgess and things settled down. With the 100 partnership looming Court came on with some off spin pies and set the trap which Burgess fell for, caught at long-on by Long for 54. Skipper Bailey carried on where Burgess left off. The re-introduction of Somerfield was the catalyst for Isham wickets as he removed ferguson for 47 and Bailey for 34 - both clean bowled. Fellow opener Law also returned and saw for Dalziel. A short pitched ball from Somerfield took Smith by suprise and looped to a shocked Law at gully who held the catch. Isham now only needed 2 wickets but overs were running out and both Somerfield and Law had bowled their allocation. With the wicket playing slow and low the Isham bowlers found it hard to produce any magic and the experienced Peasnall and youthful Rees saw out the final 4 overs.

11.07.09 - 1st XI Beat Local Rivals in Final Over Drama!

The 1st Team pulled off a dramatic win on Sat over high flying rivals Wellingborough Town.

Isham won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. Wellingborough got of to a flyer with the first 50 coming off 6 overs. Eventually Isham began to pull things back with some tight bowling from overseas Somerfield who removed both
openers. A steady stream of wickets slowed down the run rate and the introduction of Chris Long, partnering Somerfield in his second spell meant things were kept tight. Somerfield finished with 6 for 43 off 15 and Long finished with 2 for 35 off 12. Wellingborough ended on 206 for 9.

A rain delay during the Wellingborough innings meant Isham had only 45 overs to chase down the runs. Reid and Zia started well putting on 50 for the first wicket. Zia went on to make his 50 supported well by Reynolds. Isham steadily chipped away at the score but were also loosing wickets. With 3 overs to go they needed 27 to win and were 7 wickets down. Skipper Court and Long decided the draw was never an option.

A tight over from Accademy bowler Roach meant 21 was needed off the final 2 overs. A four and a single from Court put Long on strike. A dot ball was followed with one of the biggest sixes ever seen at Orlingbury road and then a four as Long decided the best way to shut the chirpy Town players up was to let his bat do the talking!!! 15 off the over meant 6 needed of the final over for the win. Court dispatched the first ball, a short pitched one for 4 through deep cover. Another bouncer followed, and flew through to the keeper. Again another short ball came in which was flat batted for 4 to give Isham a well deserved win with 3 balls to spare!!

10.05.09 - Saturday Sides Stumble

It was a poor day for both Saturday sides as the 1st XI struggled on a poor pitch away at Old Northamptonians, whilst the 2nd XI faired little better with a losing draw at home to Harlestone.

The 1st XI would have felt confident of victory during tea after keeping the hosts down to a moderate score of 211 for 9 from their 50 overs. Andy Law was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 63 from his 15 overs. But on a deteriating pitch, the ON’s spinners took full advantage – Waqar Ali helping himself to 6 wickets from 13.1 overs. Tim Robinson top scored for Isham with 47 before falling to Ali.

Back at Isham, the 2nd might look back on this as a missed chance as they could only score 165 from their 50 overs, leaving them 50 short of the target. Earlier Harlestone were bowled out but not before Matt Haeper (38) Rajiv Raval (34) and Michael Allen (30) had put together useful knocks in the middle order to set Isham 216 to win. Peter Wills and Dave Hobbs both picked up 3 wickets.

In reply Ian Kelland scored 82 whilst Abid Zia scored a quickfire 33, but overs were running out and Isham decided on the taking the losing draw points.

08.05.09 - 2 Wins From 2 For Under 17s

The U-17's played host to Raunds on a breezy overcast evening and the opening bowling attack of E.Hayes and D.Conyard restricted the visitors to 32 for 2 off the first 8 overs. The next 4 overs came from O.Brown and J.Claypole picking up a further wicket leaving Raunds on 56 for 3 off 12. With Raunds looking to increase the tempo  it was up to V.Mistry and A.Waring to close out the innings. Some lusty blows from the Raunds middle order saw them  finish on 93 for 6 with V.Mistry picking up a couple of wickets along the way.

Captain E.Leach opened with A.Waring to begin the chase with Alex dominating most of the strike up until the 6th over which saw the first Isham wicket tumble, that of the skipper mis-timing a pull shot. V.Mistry came in at 3 and put on a partnership of 46 before being bowled taking the score to 69 for 2 off 12. As the light faded next in was J.Claypole who batted with a new sense of control and together with Alex eased Isham over the winning line in the 16th over.

11.05.09 - Adam's Century See Isham Home

The Sunday XI once again saved Isham's weekend by completing another 10 wicket victory against Rutland League opposition, this time at home to Yaxley.

On a dry but flat pitch, Yaxley chose to bat first but soon found themselves in trouble, as two early wickets fell. Captain D. Straten steadied the ship with 73, but wickets were falling regularly at the other end resulting in the visitors reaching 191 all out from 44 overs. Adam Somerfield took 3 wickets.

In reply Isham showed no signs of taking the foot off the gas as Adam Somerfield (108n) continued his good afternoon and along with Kalvin Lodder (77no) the pair took advantage of some wayward bowling. Adam was dropped at mid-wicket with 90 on the board – the only time either Isham batsman looked in difficulty.

06.05.09 - Under 13s Open With A Win

Isham under 13's started the season with a comfortable win over Kettering. Batting first in damp conditions, we started steadily and a quick fire 23n/o from Luke Conyard took Ishams score to 56 for 4.

A very tight bowling performance by Ishams bowlers kept Kettering well below the asking rate. Everytime Kettering tried to up the pace they lost a wicket. Captain Kishan with 2 wickets and Luke rounding off a man of the match perfomance with 2 wickets as well.
05.05.09 - Century Heros See Isham Home

It was an easy win for the home side as both Adam Somerfield and Kalvin Lodder scored a century a piece to see Isham to a commanding score of 243-5 from their 40 overs. At the other end Peter Short took 4 wickets to stop the visitors getting anywhere near the target.

Batting first, Isham lost opener Elliott Leach early on, but this brought on Lodder at number three, and together with Somerfield the pair took apart the Lubenham bowling - although it wasn't all straight forward as both were dropped at various points of their innings. Adam's 106no included 17 fours, whilst Kalvin went at a slightly more pedestrian pace for his 100 - 11 fours and 1 six.

In reply Lubenham started poorly as Damien Conyard took two early wickets. L. Skinner steaded the ship with 49, but he was eventually bowled by Short and the batting collapse began. A quick fire 30no from R. Simms helped to give the visitors' score a hint of respectability as the game was closed out by part time spinner Somerfield!

01.05.09 - Under 17s Up For The Cup

The Isham under 17s have already matched their total wins from last season, after a convincing win away at Earls Barton in the last 16 of the Higham League Cup. The under 17s now progress to the quarter finals and will face either Rushden or Raunds.

And it was a star performance with the ball from Damien Conyard that set up the platform for the win. His figures of 4 – 3 – 2 – 5 allowed Isham to restrict the home side to 59 – 6 from their 18 overs. Elliot Hayes also chipped in with a tight 4 overs and claimed 2 wickets.

Isham continued to turn the screw with the bat, as A Waring (32) and V. Mistry (20) knocked off the runs with relative ease to give the under 17s a 10 wicket win. Is this the year for silverware?!

27.04.09 - 1st XI Start With A Defeat

The 1st XI could not cause an early upset away to Wellingborough as the home side easily reached their target of 258 for victory. After their exploits last Sunday, Ben Reid (64) and Chris Harrison (62) carried on their good form by putting on 98 for the 2nd wicket and gave Isham a strong platform to build on. Simon Court (41), Dave Jarvis (35) and Tim Robinson (31) added to score.

But in reply Wellingborough seemed relatively untroubled by the Isham bowling attack as Tim Coleman (81), Marcus Andrew (75) and Sheldon Kearns (67no) bulldozed their way through Isham’s bowlers – Marcus Andrew’s strike rate was a pacey 166.6! The 1st XI now look forward to putting things back on track at home to Weekley and Warkton.

27.04.09 - Zingari Taught A Lesson!

It was a poor start for the Zingari as Leiecester Teachers thrashed the visitors by 120 runs. But it could have been oh so different had Teacher’s skipper Zaheer Mohammed not been dropped for 7, and later on for 22. He went on score 136 and change the face of the game. Dan Howard (48) and Dale Stean (33) added valuable runs as the home side raced to 287 for 6 from their 40 overs. Neil Shah came away with the best bowling figures for Isham, taking 3 for 56 from 11 overs, whilst Peter Short, Ollie Brown and James Claypole all took a wicket a piece.

In reply Isham started brightly enough with Mark Hayes and David Kelland looking to score quickly. Kelland was lost early falling LBW to Tony Crompton bringing Stuart Hardy to the crease and despite a fighting 27 from himself and 21 for Mark Hayes, the runs weren’t being scored quick enough and with 10 overs to go Isham were still 195 runs behind. Steve Jackson contributed 29 but the star again was Shah as he added 52 late on in the innings, and along with Short (17no) added 44 in just 6.3 overs, and showed the team what might have been.

27.04.09 - Walk In The Park For Overstone

The 2nd XI couldn’t quite cross the line against Overstone Park, and could only secure a losing draw after falling 22 runs short of their target. Batting first the visitors posted a monstrous 277-7 dec. with Ben Hartley top scoring with 95. He was helped along his way by Vikesh Patel (50) and Tom Cook (52no). All of the Isham bowlers found it difficult, with Mark Norton achieving the best figures of 5-0-27-2.

In reply Isham replied in a strong fashion, but not before Jim Lyon fell for 0. Ian Kelland (83) and debutante Abid Zia (78) put on 161 between them. Even with the 5 extra overs in the 2nd innings for both teams to find a positive result, Isham never looked in danger of being bowled out, whilst at the same time not giving Overstone too much concern about surpassing their score.

23.04.09 - Saturday Is When It All Kicks Off!

The Saturday season kicks off this weekend with all 3 senior Saturday teams taking to the field. The 1st XI look forward to a trip to Wellingborough Town and skipper Simon Court has almost a full squad to pick from. Dave Jarvis who made an impressive debut for Isham on Sunday makes the starting XI, as does overseas Adam Somerfield.

1st XI Team – S. Court, G. Chudley, C. Harrison, A. Hussain, D. Jarvis, A. Law, C. Long, N. Patel, B. Reid, T. Robinson,

N. Shah, P. Short

20.04.09 - Chris Starts The Season With A Bang

It's played one, won one for Peter Short's men, as the Sunday XI thrashed Orton Park at Orlingbury Road. And it was Chris Harrison who stole the headlines with a splendid knock of 114no which included 15 fours and 5 sixes!

Batting first Orton Park struggled from the off - with overseas Adam Somerfield showing some devastating pace. At drinks Orton had only 77 runs on the board. A Wright helped the visitors to a reasonable score of 171-8 from 45 overs, scoring 69 before being stumped off the bowling of Dave Jarvis. Dave finished with 2 wickets as did Somerfield and Sunil Sukhdeo.

But no one could have quite expected the sheer dominance of the Isham batsman as runs flowed throughout the innings. Chris was aided by Ben Reid who ended on 49no.

The cricket season has well and truly begun!

Isham Cricket Club would like to welcome Adam Somerfield to the club. Adam is our overseas for 2009 and will be our second aussie in two years (oh no not another one)! Back home he plays for Tea Tree Gully Cricket Club in the SACA Adelaide Competition - he is a quick opening bowler who also bats a bit (don't they all?)

Adam arrives in the UK on Wednesday and the aim is to meet in Orlingbury for a meet and greet. If you can't make Wednesday then Adam is playing in the opening game of the season on Sunday the 19th of April - so come and say hello!

25.03.09 - Net Sessions

Senior winter nets have been successful overall this season, with a large number of the senior members turning up to at least ONE of them! The final indoor net at Southfields school is this coming Monday – 30th of March.

With the clocks going forward shortly it means we can start thinking about outdoor nets! They will take place on Thursdays this year. The first one will be on the 9th of April, kicking off at 5:30pm. As the nights get longer this will eventually become 6pm.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

24.03.09 - Work Party Organised

Horray - the cricket season is now only 3 weeks away and for those of you sick and tired of hearing about six nations woes and Kettering Town FC's success, you'll be looking forward to the start of the season!

The ground has been lovingly prepared and looked after by last years groundsman Des and we thank him hugely for his efforts over the winter. But there are other parts of the ground that need working on before the first fixture takes place.

So a work party has been organised for Sunday the 5th of April. The fun starts at 9am and there will be bacon sarnies and a fresh brew waiting for those who help out.

15.03.09 - Shorty Named Sunday Skipper

Peter Short has been named as Isham's Sunday 1st XI skipper for 2009. It's not all bad news though as on field assistance will be provided by several of the senior playing members.

The Sunday XI has yet ANOTHER tough season ahead, having been promoted to division 2 of the Rutland League starting with a home time against Orton Park on the 19th of April. This match is also a chance for Saturday league players to have a game under their belts before the NCL season starts.

Those who wish to play need to contact Peter ASAP on 07747 374638 or pierredupetit@hotmail.com

Yep it's time to get loose as nets start properly for 2009. Some of you will have dabbled just before Christmas but now it's time to mean business.

Unfortunatly the first two nets sessions have turned in to "fitness" sessions as the cricket equipment has not arrived at southfields school yet. But we've been assured that the matts will arrive in time for our next session on Monday the 19th of Jan. So be there!

Southfields school - 8:30pm to 10:00pm. EVERY Monday night until Courty breaks down!
