Here's what happened in 2006!

News Archive 2006 2007 2008 2009

Merry Christmas to Everyone - 20th Dec 2006
Isham CC wishes both it's members and supporters a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. 2006 has been a very productive one throughout the club and thanks must go to the people who have tirelessly put in the hard work to keep the club running. They are a godsend to any club and we are lucky to have as many as we do. So special thanks to them for their efforts this year.

Ground - a quick note to visit the ground development page. The external work is now complete and is looking superb. Thank you to our president Mr Robinson for supplying the images throughout the last few months. And probably a lot more importantly, many MANY thanks for his efforts securing the funding for this project. Now if only he supported a decent football team…

Website Updates - 14th Dec 2006

The 1st XI averages are FINALLY up on the records pages. All we need now is the 2nd XI averages - Shorty awaits them with much glee!
Our illustrious 1st XI skipper now has a profile on the team members page. He's missing a photo at the moment, so anyone with an image of Shaun (good, preferably bad), please contact us.
There are also some further images of the ground improvements - we now have a roof on the new toilet block.

What Happened At the AGM? - 4th Dec 2006

Isham's AGM took place on Thursday night where the only major changes were on the committee and playing personnel.
Pete Wills is our new 2nd XI captain with Jim Lyon becoming his right hand man as vice skipper. Shaun Wills retained his spot as the 1st XI skipper whilst George Chudley will continue as Sunday skipper for a third season - Dave Hobbs becomes his vice captain.

On the committee side of things, Chris Scopes resigned as Bar Chairman, a position he has held for 10 years. Isham wish to thank him for all his efforts over the past decade, and hope he will still remain involved with the club. Peter Short becomes the new Fixture Secretary, taking over from John Bonura.

There was also a key vote, where members decided to raise annual subscriptions. More details are soon to follow so keep an eye on the website.

AGM TONIGHT! - 30th Nov 2006

Tonight is your chance to put your ideas and thoughts towards the committee and other members. With many vital positions being decided as well as discussions on how to take the club forward, you can't afford to not attend tonight.

Orlingbury Road - 7:30pm start. Barman Scopes informs me that both "Streaky" and "In a Daze" are on the pumps tonight, so if you're not coming to help shape the future of the club, at least come and have a pint!

Festive Lunch Sold Out - 30th Nov 2006

If you were hoping to get a ticket to this year's Festive Lunch - too bad. The last tickets were sold this weekend and there are not plans to add to the original number.

For those lucky people with tickets, the fun is on Sunday, 10th December.

Building Continues at Pace - 22nd Nov 2006

Whilst we all turn our attention towards Brisbane for the ashes, workmen are braving the cold as work continues
on the extension of Orlingbury Road.

Thanks to our President Mr Robinson for the images. Remember it's the AGM is on the 30th of November, so you
can view the recent progress - albeit in the dark!

We now have a second patio!

Building Has Started - 13th Nov 2006

Take one last look at Orlingbury Road in it's current form as
the building work that will help transform the club is currently taking place.

For those who are not aware of the improvements planned for the club house, the plans will be available to view at the club’s AGM, which is taking place in a fortnight’s time.

Once again many thanks must go to those who have helped organise these improvements that will help take our club further forward and maintain our reputation as one of the
best pavillions in the county.

Events At Isham CC - 6th Nov 2006

It may be winter, but that doesn't mean that all the fun stops at Orlingbury Road - OH NO! Here are several events taking place before the new year to wow you during those cold winter evenings.

Ferret Racing - 25th Nov 2006 - Now part of Isham's folklore, Ferret Racing returns to Orlingbury Road on Saturday 25th November.
The concept is easy, you put money behind the bar and fritter your life savings away, and we'll race these elongated, smelly creatures with sharp teeth for your pleasure. It has always been a superb night's entertainment and you can expect much the same this time round.

Wine Tasting Evening - 16th Nov 2006 - Chris Scopes has organised a wine tasting evening on Thursday, 16th November.
The evening will start with a short talk from Leigh Gilligan, an Australian vineyard owner who will answer any questions you may have. Then on to the plonk! “Nibbles” will be available and the evening as a whole will cost £8 per person. This type of event is a first for Isham CC, so please come along and give it your full support.

Festive Lunch - 10th Dec 2006 -
On Sunday 10th December, Isham will be holding a seasonal lunch to help get you in to the Christmas spirit (CHRISTMAS ALREADY?)
It gives the members a chance to meet during the close season and of course helps raise funds behind the bar. Last year was a complete sell out so to avoid disappointment, reserve your place with Chris Scopes. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
You can contact Chris Scopes at home on 01536 722508 or on his mobile, 07973 366037

First Fixtures Announced For 2007 - 18th Oct 2006

We're only halfway through October and already next season's fixtures are being arranged! Isham have already agreed the first fixtures for their first venture in to Divison 4 of the Rutland League. Uffington CC will visit Orlingbury Road on the 5th August 2007. Isham will have the pleasure of travelling to Greatford Road on the 20th May 2007.
Further Rutland League fixtures will be confirmed throughout the week and announced on the website.

Isham Sunday XI PROMOTED! - 13th Oct 2006
The Rutland League AGM threw up several surprises on Thursday evening as Isham CC were given the opportunity to play in the 4th Division along with Oakham CC who also narrowly missed out on promotion last season. Burton Latimer and Finedon Dolben both had their applications to the league accepted, and will take the two vacancies in Division 5 that Isham and Oakham have created.

Oakham went up a level due to Huntingdon CC not re-applying to the league this season. Isham’s promotion was a little more complicated. Burton were initially placed in Division 4 due to their recent success in the Northants County League. However both the league committee and team officials present at the AGM felt it unfair to automatically place a new team in a higher league, as it had never done before. The members present at the meeting also agreed that despite Isham finishing 4th overall last season, on merit they should take the final available place in division 4 based on their previous record in the league.

Division 4 will look like this next season:
Whittlesey, Long Sutton, Laxton, Great Oakley, Higham Ferrers, Uffington, Histon, Loddington, Oakham, Isham

Division 5 has a slight Northamptonshire look about it:
Weekley and Warkton, Kettering, Weldon, East Carlton, Castor 2nd XI, Oundle 2nd XI, Elton Park 2nd XI, Burton Latimer, Finedon Dolben

Kalvin Wins Award - 13th Oct 2006
With a superb average of 116.75 in the Rutland League, Kalvin picks up the 2006 Division 5 Batting Award. His top score of 126 not out at home to Castor and Ailsworth ensured he was the only batsman in the league to average over 100. He saw off competition for the accolade from R. Daynes of Histon, Z, Zinman of Loddington and J. Harker of Isham!

It's Winter Time... - 10th Oct 2006
...and as the nights get shorter and colder, cricket is possibly the last thing on your mind. However there is much activity behind the scenes of Isham Cricket Club as plans for the 2007 season are being thought up over a pint of Streaky!
This week is the first of two Rutland league meetings. Details of what went on will be posted on the website soon after.

Also a reminder that club AGM is not as far away as you think. This is the time and place to mention any thoughts and ideas to the club that you might have. Please keep checking the website for the date and time.

Johann Slays South Africa - 26th Sep 2006
Former Isham overseas player Johann Myburgh produced a match-winning knock during
the Titans' MTN Proteas Invitational encounter with
South Africa at Supersport Park.
He hit an unbeaten 75 coming in at number six as
the Titans reached 269-6 in their 50 overs.

It proved enough as the Proteas fell short on 243
all out despite 67 from Shaun Pollock.

Let's Try Again - 26th Sep 2006
It takes place on Friday, October 20. It's at Wicksteed Park. It starts at around 7.30pm. It's the NCL
dinner. It's guest speaker is Graham Gooch. It's up to you whether you want to go or not. But let me
know by Thursday (September 28) if the answer is 'please Jim, can you put my name down because I
would love to come'. lyonj50@yahoo.com or 07931 336125.

Season Ends In Disappointment - 25th Sep 2006
The season ended in defeat for Isham as the Sunday XI succumbed to a strong Houghton side. With
only 10 men and a relatively small ground, Isham did well to keep Houghton down to 190. But poor
batting meant that Isham fell 50 runs short. More details on the fixtures/results page

Final Game Of The Season - 22nd Sep 2006
It's almost October and the season is finally about to end as Isham's Sunday XI play the last game
of the season away to Houghton on the Hill. This traditional season curtain closer went to the wire
last season, with Isham just edging out the winners by 17 runs. A solid innings from Kalvin Lodder
(73) with contributions from Nilesh Patel (32) and George Chudley (31) allowed Isham to post a
reasonable score of 195. Tight bowling from Nilesh (6 - 1 - 9 - 0) and Tom Mullen (6 - 1 - 19 - 2)
helped Isham towards the win against the Leicestershire side.

Isham Go Hi-Tec! - 19th Sep 2006
Check out the images section of the website where there are now VIDEO CLIPS taken from Sunday's
game at home to Grendon. This is

Juan's Leaving Us - 19th Sep 2006
Today, our overseas player Juan Harker finally leaves British soil and flies back home to South Africa.
Our thanks goes out to Juan for his mighty efforts both on and off the field - it's been a joy to have
him at our club. We wish him the best of luck whilst back home, and no doubt he will be keeping a
close eye on the forum over the winter!

Great Weekend For Isham CC - 19th Sep 2006
Both the Isham 1st XI and Sunday XI ran out winners this weekend to end the season. The 1st XI
managed a superb victory against Corby S&L - winning by 144 runs. The Sunday XI also gained a
comfortable win, at home to Grendon. The Zingari's final game of the season was cancelled. Check
out the Fixtures/Results section of the website for more details.

Isham Aim to End Season On High - 15th Sep 2006
This weekend sees the end of the 2006 competitive season for Isham CC as the 1st XI play their
final match of the season away to Corby Stewarts & Llyods. S&L managed an upset in the previous
encounter as they chased down Isham's healthy total of 234 at Orlingbury Road in July. A Danny
O'Callaghan century helped see the visitors home as Cory S&L reached their target with 7 overs to
spare.

This Saturday also sees the Zingari play their final game against Wakerly & Barrowden . It's tradition
that the "Zingos" play at home for the final game of the season and this year is no different as
skipper
Eddie Arthey brings his men home to try and cap off what has been a good season for the
Zingari.

Finally the Sunday XI will attempt to continue their blistering form. The visitors to Orlingbury Road are
Grendon. As always, your support is always most welcome.

NCL Dinner Reminder - 14th Sep 2006
Table For Three, Please?
Anyone want to go to the NCL Dinner? The response last time I asked was so underwhelming I will
try again. So far we have not filled the allocation of tickets already purchased for entering the
league. Thank you to the three people who replied. I need to know by the end of this week if anyone
else wants to come along.

Bookings to: lyonj50@yahoo.com or 07931 336125.
Everyone is welcome - the more the merrier.

2nd XI End Season On High - 11th Sep 2006
It was two wins and a draw for Isham’s teams this weekend.
The 1st XI fell just short against Old Northamptonian’s 2nd XI. Despite a Will Chudley half century
and tight bowling from Juan Harker, Isham couldn’t get the necessary wickets to cross the finish line.

The 2nd XI faired better however with a win against Long Buckby 2nd XI. Chasing down a low total of
128, under 15s superstar Alex Brown hit a career best of 61 not out as Long Buckby had no answers
for his “attacking stroke play”. Isham reached their target for the loss of just two wickets.

The Sunday XI ran out comfortable winners against Podington. Batting first, Podington posted 67 runs
in the first 10 overs, suggesting that it was going to be a high scoring game. But 3 wickets from Peter
Short pegged back the Podington batting. Ben Garlick (60) and George Chudley (51) did the damage
with the bat, Isham Sunday XI winning by 7 wickets.

For further match reports, see the fixtures/results section of the website.

Juan's Leaving Party - 11th Sep 2006
A great evening was had by all as Isham’s players and supporters came together to thank our
overseas player, Juan Harker, for his hard efforts throughout the season. Juan has become a
very popular player and will be sorely missed. His talents on the field have helped both the Saturday
and Sunday sides, and off the field, Juan hasn’t been afraid to jump behind the bar or stand at square
leg for 20 overs!

Juan has two more games this season, the first on Saturday away to Corby S&L, and his last game
for Isham is at home to Grendon. Please do come down and show your support for Juan.

Weekend Preview - 8th Sep 2006
This is the penultimate weekend of fixtures for the first team who travel to Kinslingbury to take on
Old Northamptonian's 2nd XI. The 2nd XI play their final match of the season, at home to Long
Buckby's 2nd XI. Mark Bolar's men will be looking to do the double over Long Buckby after the first
tie between the two teams ended in an Isham victory, and was part of the 2nd XI's 5 games winning
streak.

The 1st XI are also looking for another win to help climb up the table. Old Northamptonians left
Orlingbury Road in June with only a handful of points after Kalvin Lodder hit a quick-fire 63 to take
Isham over the finish line.

The Sunday XI play their first of three end of season friendlies - against Poddington at Orlingbury
Road. Mark Bolar will be on a high following his victory in the Rutland League last weekend and will
be looking to continue the Sunday XI's great season.

Isham Perform Well This Weekend - 4th Sep 2006

It was a mixed set of results this weekend as the Sunday XI secured their 3rd position in the league. They edged their final Rutland League game of the season with a win away to Oakham CC.
The Saturday 1st XI almost won a thrilling game against Kettering Town at Orlingbury Road.
The 2nd XI's slim chances of promotion were ended by the weather - Their match away to Badby was cancelled without a ball being bowled.

For match reports, click on the Fixtures/Results link.

Fantasy League Update - 1st Sep 2006
With only one game last weekend, the fantasy results haven't been updated yet. HOWEVER, Shorty's
promises to have the Fantasy League pages updated by lunchtime Monday. This will obviously include
all 3 crucial matches taking place this weekend as well as last Sunday's results again Histon.

Venue Switch - 1st Sep 2006
Our first team game against Old Northamptonians 2nd on September 9 has been switched to
Kislingbury's ground.

Isham Lose Out In Promotion Chase - 28st Aug 2006
A poor batting display after some exceptional performances in the field cost Isham’s Sunday XI any
chance of promotion this season in the Rutland League. Opponents Histon CC, gained the points they
required to ensure promotion from Division 5 in their first attempt.
Fielding first, Isham grafted in the field and reaped the rewards, restricting Histon to 158 for 9 off 45
overs - Will Chudley taking a deserved five wickets whilst Kalvin Lodder and Dave Hobbs managed 2
wickets a piece.
But in reply Isham fell short by 25 runs despite further heroics from Will Chudley (52). At one point
Isham were cruising at 102 for 2 after just 20 overs, but stupid shot selection resulted in wickets
falling at regular intervals and the last 8 wickets managing a meagre 31 runs as Isham were bowled
out for 133.
Isham travel to Oakham for their final league match of the season with third position still available.

NCL Dinner - 27th Aug 2006
Graham Gooch is the guest speaker at this year's league dinner which takes place on Friday,
October 20 at Wicksteed Park.
It's always a good night and a chance to catch up with people from around the county circuit.
Can anyone who is interested in attending let Jim Lyon know as soon as possible. As always it would
be nice to get a decent representation from the club. Tickets cost £22.50 each, although that will be
subsidised to some extent by the club.

New Online Forum - 23rd Aug 2006
You can now chat to players and isham members online with our new message board. Click on the
"Forum" link to the left, or check out www.ishamcc.highforum.net to see what it's all about.

Promotion Still On For Sunday XI? - 21st Aug 2006
A high scoring game against Oakham at Orlingbury Road saw Isham Sunday XI complete their 10th
win of the season and pile the pressure on for 2nd place Histon who had their game cancelled
againstRothwell.
Batting first, Isham showed their intent instantly, with J. Harker hitting two sixes in the first 3 overs.
Three Isham batsman reached their during the innings, 50 - W. Chudley reaching 73, A. Reynoldson
making 86 and K. Lodder not out with 57. In total Isham finished with a mammoth 267 for 6 from their
alloted 40 overs.
Such a total would put many teams off, but Oakham hadn't came to Isham just to roll over. For the
first 9 overs, they were with and above Isham's run rate, and threatened to take the game to the
wire. But inspired captaincy from G. Chudley brought on the spin attack of J. Harker and W. Chudley
to slow Oakham up. With the rain clouds threatening, Isham were forced to run through their last 12
overs and within 5 minutes of leaving the field the rain tumbled down. Oakham's brave effort took
them to 201 for 5, 66 runs short of Isham's total.
Isham now face the most important game of the season, a home clash against Histon on the 27th
of August. The winner of this match would have one hand on the vital promotion place. There will be
a BBQ and the bar will be open from 12:30pm - Everyone will be most welcome to attend.

Rain Spoils Isham's Saturday - 21st Aug 2006
Both the First and Second teams had their progress halted on Saturday as the heavens opened.
The match between the First XI and table topping Burton Latimer lasted only 17 overs before the rain
camedown. Isham reached 45 for 0 before the match was abandoned.

The Second XI were in a superb position against Ashby Timken before being forced off by the weather. Batting first, Isham managed 180 for 8 - including 45 from skipper M. Bolar and 40 from G. Chudley. In reply Ashby Timken were restricted to 40-4 before the rain denied Isham of a possible victory.

Time To Pay Up! - 15th Aug 2006
With just over a month of the season to go and there are still a large number of players who have
not paid their subs for the 2006 season. Please pay your £25 ASAP as it is unfair on those who have
paid to be funding your hobbies!

Dreadful Day - 14th Aug 2006
A short update this week. We lost. All of us.
The firsts lost by nine wickets, the second were all out for 82 and lost by three wickets and the
Zingers were beaten by Uppingham.

The Sunday XI didn't lose, however nor did they actually take to the pitch as the clash against
Rothwell Town was called off. This now effectivly ends Isham's chance of Promotion as they are
40 points from a promotion place with only 4 games to play.
